Breast Augmentation overview
Breast augmentation surgery increases the size of the breasts through the insertion of inflatable implants, creating a more feminine, appealing contour and shape. Breast implants may be filled with saline or silicone – patients are encouraged to discuss the pros and cons of each material with their doctor.

Cost:
$3,000.00 to $8,000.00

Time:
1-2 hours are usually needed for a breast augmentation. Time requirements can, of course, vary between unique situations.

Side Effects:
Side effects can include temporary discomfort, bruising, soreness, swelling, and/or skin wrinkling; temporary change in nipple sensation and altered mammography; temporarily excessive breast sensitivity.

Risks:
All surgical procedures carry a risk of infection, bleeding, or reaction to anesthesia. Specific risks can include:
– Obvious scars
– Capsular contracture
– Implant rupture or deflation
– Asymmetry of breasts or nipples
– Permanent loss of breast and/or nipple sensation

Results & Duration:
Breast augmentation results should be long lasting, but may change with aging, weight fluctuation, or gravity, creating need for replacement of implants.

Recovery:
Patient wears a position-supporting bra home for initial stage of recovery

Sutures can usually be removed about 7-12 days after surgery

Most patients usually return to work a few days after surgery

At least 3 weeks should be given after surgery before any aerobic activity is attempted.

Anesthesia:
In the case of breast augmentation, anesthesia of choice is usually local with sedation, but general anesthesia may also be opted for.

Inpatient/Outpatient
Outpatient.

For enhanced results, the surgery may be combined with:
Breast Lift
Liposuction
Tummy Tuck

Breast Augmentation also known as:
Augmentation Mammaplasty. Breast Enhancement. Breast Enlargement. Implants. Boob job (slang).

Insurance:
If the procedure is being performed out of necessity, in conjunction with post-cancer breast reconstruction, insurance may cover it. But because of the cosmetic nature of the augmentation, insurance most often does not apply.

Pain & Discomfort Level
Pain and discomfort is usually quite minimal, often lasting for just a few days, but can depend on the extent of surgery.
